"Box Office Battle" is The Fly's weekly roundup of what movies topped the weekend's box office.
Disney's (DIS) "Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings" remained atop the box office charts in its fourth weekend, earning another $13.3M as it became the top-grossing pic of the pandemic era in North America. The movie finished Sunday with a domestic gross of $196.5M and $166.9M overseas for a global total of $363.4M. "Shang-Chi" sports an A Cinemascore and unlike fellow Marvel Studios pic "Black Widow," it has an exclusive 45-day theatrical release.
BOX OFFICE RUNNERS-UP: Comcast (CMCSA) subsidiary Universal's "Dear Evan Hansen" placed number 2 in its debut weekend, grossing $7.5M from 3,364 theaters. Behind it was Disney's "Free Guy" with another $4.1M for a domestic cume of $114.1M. Comcast subsidiary Universal's "Candyman" placed number 4, earning another $2.5M. Rounding out the top five, AT&T (T) subsidiary Warner Bros.' "Cry Macho" grossed an estimated $2.1M from 2,065 locations.
